Marion Carpenter, shown here with President Harry S. Truman, was a member of SPCC from 1941 until 1944. She became a photojournalist with King Features Syndicate, and was also the first female photographer in the White House Press Corps. Marion worked at the White House, capturing images of President Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Winston Churchill, and many others.
After her death in October 2003, a donation from her estate was given to SPCC. It was decided that a traveling trophy, named the Marion Carpenter Award, would be given each year to the best Monochrome Photojournalism Print.
